A community in Quezon Province is poised to celebrate Christmas in their new homes. This achievement followed the turnover of 209 housing units to Upright Community Homeowners’ Association, Inc. by the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) in Lucena City on November 10.

The beneficiaries of the housing project, facilitated through the agency’s Community Mortgage Program, consist of low-income families from Barangay Mayao Crossing. Each family is allocated a 38.5-square meter two-story rowhouse for occupancy.

“This is our lifelong dream. These housing units are a far cry from the makeshift structures that we used to live in,” Upright Community President Gilberto Pereyra said in Filipino. “I want to thank SHFC and its partners for making this project a reality. This is the greatest Christmas gift that we have received.”

Representing SHFC President and CEO Federico Laxa, SHFC South Luzon Operations OIC-Vice President Jimmy Manes led the ceremonial turnover, along with Quezon Governor Helen Tan and Lucena Mayor Mark Alcala. SHFC Appraisal Department OIC-Manager Engr. Steve Villaflor, Councilors Ryan Caezar Alcala and Edwin Pureza, and Philmar Properties and Contractors owner Maria Castillo also graced the event.

Manes extended his congratulations to the association and encouraged beneficiaries to diligently maintain the housing units. “These housing units will not only foster new beginnings but also open doors to additional opportunities, that is why the name ‘upright’ is very fitting,” Manes said in his speech.

Meanwhile, Tan urged the beneficiaries to religiously fulfill their obligations under their loan agreement with SHFC, emphasizing their fortune in being part of the government’s housing program. Alcala, on the other hand, recognized the roles of SHFC, the city government, and their partners in ensuring the successful completion of the project.

Upright Community secured approval for its lot acquisition loan from SHFC in November 2020 and obtained site development and construction loans in June last year. The construction of the project, undertaken by Philmar Properties and Contractors, commenced in September 2022.

SHFC is the lead implementer of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) Program, which seeks to address the country’s 6.5 million housing backlog. The corporation has provided secured homes to about 400,000 families through its community-driven programs. For more info, please call (+632) 7750-6337 or visit www.shfc.dhsud.gov.ph.
