Five months after the inauguration of a pilot section of the Pasig River Urban Development (PRUD) project, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos inspected a new segment in near completion along Old Manila’s renowned Intramuros district on June 23 afternoon.

House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr., accompanied the First Couple’s tour through the 250-meter stretch of the Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli project’s Phase 1C, extending it from Phase 1A and 1B built behind the Manila Central Post Office.

During the event, Key Shelter Agencies (KSAs) were represented by their officials, including Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) President and Chief Executive Officer Federico Laxa. Notably, DHSUD, SHFC, and other KSAs play a key role in the implementation of the national government’s integral urban development program including the envisioned 25-kilometer-long Pasig Riverbank walkway.

Last year, President Marcos issued two related executive orders enforcing the said rehabilitation project and the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino Housing Program – both flagship urban development programs strongly advocated for by the First Couple. Particularly, SHFC is building the first in-city housing project intended for several affected families residing along the Manila section of the Pasig Riverbank.

The City of Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Intramuros Administration Chief Atty. Joan Padilla, SHFC Executive Vice President Atty. Junefe Payot, and SHFC Resettlement Services Vice President Bob Flores also participated in the event.
